Jeff Lugerner and Karen Cooley bring a combined 30 years of executive coaching, team development, and business management experience to Leadership Development Institute. Their experience with both high level executives and high-powered teams uniquely positions LDI to be a leading executive leadership development firm in the San Francisco Bay Area. Both have worked with companies in the internet, hardware, software, medical technology, pharmaceuticals, transportation, legal, technology, construction and communications industries.

Jeff Lugerner, Principal
Jeff Lugerner is a highly regarded and sought after executive coach, facilitator, and trainer. He has designed solutions in the areas of leadership development, executive team building, 360 feedback programs, and change management. He has vast experience coaching senior executives in enhancing their skill sets and leadership style and in leveraging their team's performance.

Jeff has an M.S. in Counseling Psychology from California State University at Fresno, and also received a Diplomat in Behavioral Medicine from the Society of Behavioral Medicine. He earned a Professional Achievement Award in Team Development from University of California, Santa Cruz.


Karen Cooley, Principal
Karen Cooley has over 15 years experience consulting with and coaching senior-level executives at both Silicon Valley startups and Fortune 1000 companies. Her list of clients include: Cell Genesys, Boston Scientific, Synopsys, Sun Microsystems, Gilead Sciences, SAP/ Business objects and Yahoo. Her expertise ranges from issues involving employee and team performance to executive leadership assessment and development. Karen's exceptional understanding of the impact of leadership styles, team dynamics and corporate cultures leads executives of companies to seek out her feedback and trust her perspective.

Karen has an M.S. in Counseling from the University of Wisconsin and a B.S. in Psychology from Carroll College, was certified in Industrial Relations at the University of Minnesota and earned a Professional Achievement Award In Team Development from University of California, Santa Cruz.

David Cooley, Executive Coach
David Cooley has been an executive coach with LDI since September 2001. His client list includes Sun Microsystems, E! Entertainment, Synopsys, Gilead Sciences, Lumend Technologies and The Horn Group. He has also served as a career coach and trainer for an international career consulting firm.

Prior to becoming an executive coach, David worked for more than 10 years as a public relations professional with top executives and senior-level management for international companies including Sony Pictures Entertainment and Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing North America.

He received his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, attended graduate school at University of California Los Angeles and is certified in executive coaching by the Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara, California.


Marek B. Helstrom, Executive Coach
Marek Helstrom joined LDI in August of 2003 as an executive coach and also directs the company's assessment delivery processes. Marek's extensive experience includes over 20 years of executive coaching, corporate strategy and organizational management in both domestic and international settings. His client list has included executives in the Oil & Gas, Information Services and Human Resources Consulting industries, including such corporations as Schlumberger, Procorp Associates, Occidental Petroleum and UNOCAL.

Most recently Marek served as a Senior Facilitator at the Leadership Development Center at California State University at Bakersfield in the Areas of Gender and Cultural Communications, Team Building, Problem-Solving and Management and Organizational Sklls.Marek has an M.A. in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. Marek is licensed as a Corporate Coach with Winslow Research Institute, and is a Certified Human Behavior Consultant with Personality Insights, Inc. He is currently finalizing his Coaching Certification from Success Unlimited Network. Additionally, he holds a B.A. in Geography Environmental Systems from California State University at Northridge, and a B.S. in Geology from USC.

Darlene Munoz-Helstrom, Executive Coach
Darlene joined LDI in Fall 2003 as an executive coach. Her corporate experience includes 20 years of working with executives at companies including Schlumberger Omnes, Entergy Corp. and Executive Suites.

Darlene's expertise includes vast experience in leadership assessment, team building, research and strategic planning and employee recruiting/screening. Darlene's strong strategic skills have made her a sought-after coach with the unique ability to identify problem areas and create effective solutions.

Darlene is certified as a Human Behavior Consultant with Personality Insights, Inc. She also has a certification in the Human Behavior Assessment Systems Program of the Winslow Research Institute and has been trained by Success Unlimited Network, a sanctioned affiliate of the International Coaching Federation.
